AWS Stock Notifier: Terraform First

Build Note - Terraform, Lambda, SNS, and CloudWatch.

The problem

I wanted a small, real AWS build that was repeatable, not a set of manual console clicks I could not recreate. A stock alert system was a good size: event driven, serverless, and easy to explain end to end.

What I built

An event driven stock alert system using AWS Lambda, Amazon SNS, and Amazon CloudWatch, provisioned with Terraform for repeatable deployment. Repo: github.com/shawndrafts/stock-notifications-terraform. Writeup: Stay Ahead of the Market: Real-Time Stock Notifications with AWS.

Honest status

Nothing is currently running in that AWS account for billing reasons. The Terraform version exists, so the system can be set up again whenever I want. I am not presenting this as a live production service.

What I would change next

Add a remote state backend with S3 and DynamoDB, and one CI/CD workflow that validates and plans Terraform changes. That is the next proof step: not just code that works once, but code that is reviewed, planned, and deployed in a repeatable way.
